How to make e-mail faster on the macbook.

After several updates and using e-mail on the Mac may degrade because of the size of the index as a result of deleting messages.

How can you make the system fast and with the highest performance again?

The answer is in regenerating the index.

Depending on the operating system, the index folder changes.

Therefore we describe the procedure for some versions of Mac OS.

OS X 10.7 (Lion), OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) & OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)

Quit Mail, launch Terminal and type the following:

  • sqlite3 ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope\ Index vacuum;

OS X 10.12 (Sierra)

Update for Mac OS Sierra:

Quit Mail, launch Terminal and type the following:

  • sqlite3 ~/Library/Mail/V4/MailData/Envelope\ Index vacuum;

Hence the mail index will be rebuilt, and the mail will be faster !
